The Gift of Reading‘s program presented by Kaleido
Attentive to the causes of illiteracy in Quebec, the Foundation created The Gift of Reading program in 1999. This initiative targets underprivileged children aged 0–12 from across Quebec, with a view to preventing reading and writing difficulties that can lead to dropping out of school and then illiteracy.
Each year, the public is invited to donate a brand new children’s book at one of the some 400 collection points in Quebec. The books are then distributed to the children during the fall. It is also possible to contribute by making a donation or by organizing your own collection or fundraiser.
The Gift of Reading 22nd Edition’s Results
The 22nd edition of The Gift of Reading was marked by great generosity: 113 364 children living in underprivileged areas received a book as a gift from our donors. Thank you to everyone who donated books or money at participating bookstores and through numerous collection activities.
Since 1999, The Gift of Reading has distributed over 850 000 books to children aged 0 to 12 years old.
In 2020, 943 establishments across Quebec responded to the invitation of the Literacy Foundation and participated in the distribution of new books. The Foundation would like to thank them, because their collaboration is crucial for the smooth running of the program.
