In 1999-2000, the project took place only in the Metropolitan Montreal area, while subsequent editions have taken place throughout Quebec.

Since 1999, more than 225,000 children aged 0–12 and their parents have been reached by the Gift of Reading® project.

The 30,000 mark was passed

Through your donations, 30,181 underprivileged children received a brand new book in May!

Thanks to all the donors who gave books or money at participating bookstores, book fairs and libraries, and through numerous collection initiatives.

Donors from all 11 editions of The Gift of Reading® can be proud, because through their contributions, more than 225,000 children’s books are still circulating in as many underprivileged homes.

 

Participating organizations

This year, 458 organizations across Quebec answered the Foundation’s invitation and are taking part in the distribution of brand new books. The Foundation wishes to thank them, as their collaboration is crucial for the project to run smoothly.

 

  • 169 schools, including 11 English schools;
  • 157 members of the Quebec federation of Famille community organizations;
  • 99 childcare centres;

  • 33 other organizations working in underprivileged neighbourhoods.
