Each year, individuals and groups—associations, groups of employees or friends, sports clubs or even families—organize collection initiatives in aid of the Gift of Reading® project.
You can adapt your collection initiative to your needs, resources and available time;
it can happen at any time during the year, for one day or over several months. Draw inspiration from past activities:
Every year UQAM invites colleagues and students to buy a brand new children's book (0–12 years old) and deposit it in one of the Gift of Reading® collection boxes located in the university pavilions. In 2008, this initiative generated 352 books and over $370.
You can do the same, by organizing your book collection on the occasion of a birthday, office party, gift exchange or other special occasions.
In 2008, four students from the École d'éducation internationale de Laval organized a bowl-o-thon on behalf of The Gift of Reading®. They raised $434.
You could organize a golf tournament, a garage sale, a used book or bake sale, or any other activity and send the proceeds to The Gift of Reading®. All the money raised will be used to cover the project's logistical needs and send the books to the children.
In February 2008, the Choeur et Orchestre philharmonique du Nouveau Monde used their concert proceeds to purchase 93 brand new children's books for The Gift of Reading®.
During the 2008 holiday season, Absolu communication marketing came up with the generous idea of replacing the traditional Christmas gift to customers with a donation of books to The Gift of Reading® in their name. This original concept resulted in the donation of 71 new children's books.
Tell us about your original ideas for activities! It could be auction of children's drawings, scarf sale, benefit concert, etc. Make our cause your own by personalizing your collection! |
