Since it was set up in 1990, the Info-Alpha line has helped some 58,000 individuals, by:

  • Responding to at least 2,500 requests a year;
  • Directing callers to one of the 600 or so adult basic education resources in Quebec that can meet their specific needs;
  • Informing callers of the latest trends and best practices on the education scene in Quebec;
  • Responding to requests from every administrative region in Quebec;
  • Providing services in French and English.

  • Total time spent responding: 48,224 minutes

Profile of Info-Alpha line callers

  • 64% of callers were women (seeking help for themselves or someone else);

  • 32% of callers were friends, family members or colleagues of the person with weak reading skills wishing to undertake training;

  • 48% of learners* were men;

  • 41% of users mentioned as a referral source the TV advertisements
    co-signed by the Foundation and the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sports (MELS)

* By “learners” we mean those individuals who will ultimately benefit from the referral. The caller and the potential learner are not necessarily the same person.

 

Main requests to the Info-Alpha line

  • Requests concerning literacy training: 40%*

  • Requests concerning French-language training or English as a second language: 26%

  • Requests concerning adult basic education: 13%

* Includes requests concerning basic training in French and mathematics, family literacy, English-language literacy training, French-language literacy training, and literacy through tutoring.
